Default Magery (Self Only)

How much would you price Magery, with the limitation "Can only cast spells on self"?

(You can also cast spells on your own weapons, but not others')

I'd say -20% to -40%

careful with that.
Missile spells are specifically cast on "self" and then thrown with a mundane skill. With this limitaion and the Throw Spell spell what magic could you NOT cast?

-5%, -8% properly but GURPS assumes pentaphilia and always rounds against the player's favor.

Its' essentially a nuisance effect.

I think a better wording to get the intent of the limitation would be "Spells can only affect self." So you could potentially learn and cast Fireball, and throw it, but it would fizzle out for no damage on impact. (Though I'd just bar him from learning such spells in the first place.) My gut says this is worth at least -40%.

Remember that magery has a bigger price on limitations since it only got the discount to magery, not to the spells.

Or a fireball can only be used for a melee attack. I think I'd allow that, since it's basically just enhancing your own melee strike.

That could work too, though at that point you should probably allow any spells to function by touch. It doesn't make much sense to allow melee attacks with Fireball but not with Burning Touch. Magery (Touch Only) would probably be -20% or so.
