Default DFRPG Adventurer's Book, Page 19 Question

Under Cleric, Disadvantages, Honesty
Help me understand what this means:

"Disadvantages: One of Honesty (12) [-10]...

No other listing for any other profession that has Honesty in it's modular block uses the (12), so I'm wondering what it means here. There isn't anything in the text on Honesty indicating what it is for. I went back and cross-referenced BS as well. It isn't "page 12" as that part of the book is on movement and Encumbrance. Probably something obvious I have missed. Thanks!

That's your resistance level for the check - your Control Roll. The lower the Control Roll, the harder to resist, and the more the disadvantage is worth, and vice-versa. They are categories as 6 or less, "quite rarely", 9 or less "fairly often", 12 or less "quite often" (and base price of all disads that have control rolls), 15 or less "almost all the time", natural 17/18 "all the time except under extreme conditions".

So in this case to see whether you are compelled to be Honest or not in a situation where the character doesn't want to be, make a Control Roll. On a 12 or less you don't have to be honest. 13 or more, you do. Of course, a player who tries to always make their control roll might not really be playing the spirit of the disad. You should really only try to resist when there's a signficant reason to do so (protecting someone or yourself, or yourself, for example).

Ah thank you now I see it explained on page 55. Thanks for straightening that out. Maybe just rolling against Will creates an imbalance where the disadvantage is concerned.

That was the rule in GURPS 3e and older, and corresponding GURPS-based games. There was a problem with high-Will characters, who could have lots of mental disadvantages and hardly be affected by them at all.

Having a separate self-control roll allowed players to pick the severity of a disadvantage, and also to buy them off gradually.
