But I'm more of a seat-of-the-pants type GM, to where the players don't *really* know the rules, and shouldn't have *too* much confidence in their estimation of the odds of success before the fact. If I see them doing math in their head I press for an action right away. Too much hesitation means they lose their chance to act, or at best have to go last.
This doesn't work if you're playing a tactical board game, but does wonders to speed up an RPG.
