Re: African Weird Story/Cliffhanger
Professor Wickramanaijke grew up in Ceylon, went to school at Charterhouse and to university at Cambridge, and has had twelve seasons digging in Egypt. He speaks Singhalese, English, Latin, Greek, Sanskrit, Pali, Arabic, and [Ancient] Egyptian. He has History (Egypt)-18, being a leading Egyptologist.
What Cultural Familiarities ought he to have? Western, Islamic, Indian?

Re: African Weird Story/Cliffhanger
Is Indian it's own familiarity or does it fold into a larger Central Asia familiarity?

Re: African Weird Story/Cliffhanger
Good question. That's another way of putting just what I'm asking.

Re: African Weird Story/Cliffhanger
If Western is one, it'd probably be okay to do a Central Asia CF.

Quote:
Western can cover such a large and historically diverse area specifically because so much entertainment and culture is shared. This does not apply to the same degree with the Indian subcontinent and Central Asian republics named -stan (except Pakistan). I'd say Indian and be lenient when judging whether it applied in areas around India that have cultural similarities (Bangladesh, Pakistan).

Re: African Weird Story/Cliffhanger
When we startet the spin-off of the old campaign, we just switched from 3rd to 4th ed.
We did the mistake of making 100 pt characters (+10 for backgrund stuff, hobiies etc.). And boy did we suck, big time! With the altered prices for DX/IQ, 150 pts in 4th ed is really what 100 pts in 3rd ed bought you. After a while, we earned exp, and are now around 170 I think. And still not very good. In the olden days, when new players entered - the campaign lasted 14 years mind you - they started at 100 points. We all did that, but the veteran characters were easily 250 points and a single was over 400. But they noobs progressed quickly, the old ones had wasted points so weren't thate ffective, and things worked out. This time, I ruled that the new characters started at 150+10, with the "veterans" at around 170. I dunno what I'll do further on, if we get new players once we're better.
