Fungus and Fright Sprite, bad stuff clarification
The Fungus and the Fright Sprite have similar bad stuff; "Show the other players your hand and discard all scrolls and potions", and "Show your hand and discard all potions", respectively.
Question is; from where are potions and scrolls discarded? Most, if not all, other bad stuffs/curses/similar things, happens from items in play on the table, and not from your hand where items are "safe". However, the wording on the bad stuff refers to the hand. Considering scrolls and potions occupy precious hand slots, and takes no space on the table, there's little reason to keep scrolls or potions on your hand, and the bad stuff is effectively none (except for showing your hand). |

The bad stuff is to show your hand and discard all scrolls and potions, not all scrolls and potions in your hand. The point of showing your hand is to show what potential scrolls and potions you have in your hand, removing the urge to cheat.

There's quite a few curses and bad stuff that affect the hand specifically, notably the ones where other players can pick cards randomly from your hand. Items in the hand aren't safe, they're just hidden from other players.

Re: Fungus and Fright Sprite, bad stuff clarification
There is no such thing as "Items in the hand." The hand contains cards, nothing more. A very few cards talk about losing an Item from in play or in the hand, and those cards should be considered to be shorthand for "lose an Item in play or a card in your hand that would be an Item if it were in play."
I hate to harp on this, but it's really critical not to get confused about the difference. The only things that can be targeted by a Curse or Trap or Bad Stuff or room effects are cards in play, unless the C/T/BS/RE specifically and explicitly says otherwise.

Re: Fungus and Fright Sprite, bad stuff clarification
I had to take the Fungus' bad stuff in my last game and that confused me for a couple of seconds... but the little description helped me clear that up... it says something about the Fungus makes you Hallucinate and you start shooting your potions and scrolls against the walls!
