Re: Magpies in Nordland?
Ravens are one of the example races in GURPS Template Toolkit 2. I had a lot of fun writing them up.

Re: Magpies in Nordland?
All true, though the stats for crow and magpie are almost certainly within GURPS' level of resolution.

Re: Magpies in Nordland?
Nordlondr Folk has an example raven-folk PC template as well.

Re: Magpies in Nordland?
Magpies are halfway between blue jays and crows in size.

Re: Magpies in Nordland?
Ah, that would be different, then; I wrote up ravens as an animal template, not a sapient race template. But I expect they'd be fairly similar physically.

Re: Magpies in Nordland?
Ah. I haven't looked at a D&D style game since the first edition of AD&D came out; I'm only familiar with the really original races and monsters.

Re: Magpies in Nordland?
Without digressing too much, the animal-folk from the Nordlond setting are humans that have taken on the aspect of a notionally Viking-oid or Asgardian totem animal. There are bears, wolves, ravens, and boars.

Re: Magpies in Nordland?
Sample Magpie omen
At the start of an adventure or quest the PCs encounter a magpie trying to lift an impossibly heavy necklace with a sapphire amulet. It appears to be trying to take it to it’s nest in a nearby tree. There are many options for the PCs to do which will affect the fortune of their adventure. The PCs can try to help the magpie place the necklace amulet into its nest or they can simply ignore the situation and keep traveling. If the PCs try to take the necklace amulet then the magpie will fiercely try to defend its prize and will attack as if it is a crow. The necklace is worth $1200. If the nest is investigated it will have many worthless baubles decorating it along with 1d6 silver pieces and 1d6 gold pieces. Any PC with occult or mystical understanding has a chance to know that magpies are strongly associated with the power of magic and that the All-Father Odin is the god of magic.
