Wasn't there also a version that could haul 42,000lbs but was too wide for practical road use ? Even with wheels removed it was too big to fit on aa regular vehicle transporter . They had to use extra wide low loader they use with AFVs , heavy plant equipment & quarry dump trucks .

Talk about rather excessive ...

Hmmm. A pickup has 13 spaces for components but 24 overall. Whilst the 1/3rd rule says total spaces, I have always taken that to mean total component spaces so you could only mount 4 spaces of weapons to any specific arc.

Is there any rule clarification that explicitly says you count the cargo space for the 1/3 rule or some published pickup designs that have more than 4 spaces to an arc as corollary?

The Grand Slam Van from Combat Showcase has 10 Heavy Rockets Front . That's 1/3 of total 24+6 Spaces .
Plus the Leviathan Helicopter has a Back mounted TANK GUN ... on 24+17 Spaces (did. TG have a magazine to ?) .

One of the ADQ design ads features a Camper with twin Autocannons with magazines . Can't recall name , but it is I think in Index from ADQ 10/4 .
Poseidon perhaps ? May be getting confused with an online designs name .

I've designed a Camper with four VMGs up front on Combat Garage .

Helos have special explicit rules for mounting weapons in cargo areas.

"Side- and bottom-mounted weapons can be mounted in cargo space. Back-mounted weapons must be taken from cargo space, if the chopper has cargo space to begin with."

I am not quite sure what purpose cargo spaces serve for Helos since the only criteria for cargo was that you couldn't mount weapons in it. If you say you can then it isn't really cargo space. You can of course put cargo into normal vehicular spaces.

Couldn't find your van, but the search did lead me to ADQ&A 10-3 where this question is asked. Ken Scott says yes cargo counts towards the 1/3 spaces rule. I can't see this contradicted in any other ADQ&A so we have a winner.

We apologise for this interruption and we are returning you to your scheduled programme.

No, it didn't. It *could* -- there's 1 unused space in the hull, but one would have to drop some armor to make weight.

Granted, the question of "does cargo space count toward 1/3-spaces" wasn't a huge concern until gas engines came out, and Pickups finally had enough spaces to come up with abominations like the one I posted. :)

43' Pickup with a HR targeting computer would make a solid convoy killer. Add tracer to one of the HMGs and you can start firing from a ways out and before any of the convoy guns can draw a bead you can be doing 16 dice damage every volley. The high cost is not unreasonable if you consider the value of the average convoy.

A single vehicle approaching from far out might not arouse too much suspicion and you don't even have to get especially close. With a small convoy of a rig with 2-3 escorts you could strip them front to back within a few turns each. Even metal armoured escorts are imperilled with 2D damage and if you knew that was what you were facing you could replace the HD with Explosive ammo and really have a time of it.

Someone pasted up their convoy with 3 escorts as part of their play through of the Convoy published adventure. I'll have to have a play with this car as a stern chase encounter against someone's generic convoy design (vs someone planning against this specific vehicle). I suspect it will be infinitely more effective than the "green grabber" than they played through. I'll also have to run it past my own groups default convoy (but as that stumbled vs 12 infantry with ARs it might not be a fair test).

My normal policy of having a gunner is less critical as well as in a stern chase you don't need to be more than Driver 0 as you don't need to manoeuvre.

Probably says more about the HMG than anything else, the same vehicle with twin BCs could carry more armour and wouldn't raise an eyebrow, but rolling to hit 8 times will flatten the probability curve and seriously worry your opponent :).

Thanks 43. This one is going in my roster :)

The Convoy could of course scatter ? A scouting Trike with OR Tires could easily evade by leaving the Road & trailing Smoke . And be on the radio to warn others of this killer Pickup .

In our games going back to about mid '90's , we tend to frown upon more than two HMGs being used together on standard vehicles - four on Oversized .

This has worked incredibly well & prevents one-shot bloodbaths that ruin gaming experience .

Twenty to thirty UK players I've gamed with subscribe to the '2d-2 Damage , 300lb Standard Ammo fully loaded' version of the HMG , as none of the repeated official stats clarifications were ever answered .
If this Rule of Logic was fine fine for L.E.A.D.A.'s great Phil Rradley , then it's fine for rest of us here ... ;-)

( he'd probably happily use eight HMGs to cure his current mouse problem ! Populations have exploded this Autumn in Britain !! 8-¶ )
