Re: Food and drink
My cohusband is a nice guy, salt of the earth - unless he's had a couple of beers, which erodes his social conditioning and starts him on a swift slide toward Jerkville. Obviously, RPing, or gaming of any sort, is impractical at this point...
The only cleanliness issue I've encountered so far is in matters of personal hygiene. Back in the '80s, when I was gaming with some people while I was in the AF, there was one young man who didn't seem to quite grasp the point of showering more than about once or twice a month. He also didn't seem to be interested in deodorant, antiperspirant, or cologne to mask his scent. He was utterly oblivious to hints. (He was kind of eased out of the group after the time that his character was stopped from doing something utterly stupid which would have resulted in at least his character's death, and possibly a TPK, and he responded by punching the host's refrigerator...)

Re: Food and drink
Thank you. It's a Woody Allen quote; unfortunately, there wasn't quite enough space in the sigline area to attribute it.

Re: Food and drink
The point is moot for a few months. I've just been shuffled (at short notice, and I agree with the reason) onto the early shift, so probably no gaming at all for me this summer...

Re: Food and drink
As we've gotten older we've had to get a lot less of the junk at the table. When it's at my house I won't serve anything greasy during the game. Pretzels or peanuts in the shell.
Meals are always done separate from the game. We'll typically take a break from the game to eat. Typically it's something that we can pre ahead of time, such as chilli or soup. Although once I did seafood crepes, and beef ribs used to be a semi-regular thing. There used to be a lot more alcohol at the table when we were younger. We all drink less now, and there might be a glass or two of wine, or a couple of beers. I won't drink at all if I'm running the game though, because I need to keep my head clear. To be honest, coffee has become the top drink at the table for the last few years. Tastes good, keeps the head clear. And if served with cups on saucers, it doesn't run much risk of spills.

Re: Food and drink
There is a simple criteria while playing GURPs at my house.
1. A table must be ENORMOUS (so I, as a GM, can have all my materials lined up in front of me). 2. Fridge must be FULL of beer (because sessions usually end up in tavern, so we throw a little bit of live-action roleplaying... ends up prettty interesting) 3. Plates must be full, and refilled, with potato chips. When there is none, it usually means it's too late, and the shops are closed. |

Re: Food and drink
It tends to vary with my groups, but in general everyone brings in a potluck assortment of chips and cookies and 2-liter bottles of soda. Depending on where we are playing, my wife will usually make a big pot of chili, which can be eaten as-is or spooned over cooked elbow macaroni and/or sprinkled with shredded cheese. Plus there is generally a bottle of Mountain Dew reserved for me, most of which I will drink over the course of the evening from one of my Coast Guard logo coffee cups.
Games with my Usual Suspects are a bit more elaborate, since we don't get together as frequently as we used to and so are more likely to make an event of it. The afore mentioned chili, chips and cookies are a given, to which is added a salad bar and either a baked potato bar or an assortment of pizzas.

Re: Food and drink
In my group people usually bring their own food and drink if they want to eat. Nobody provides for anybody.
As to the clenliness, my group has long ago learned to avoid messy foods. Or if they have something that could potentially mess up my books, I just move the books away from them until they finnish eating and go wash their hands. Work just fine. Nobody has been offended by it. Alcohol during games is interresting. I have tried it a few times but it usually doesn't end well. A beer of three is fine, but any more and thing get out of hand usually. And it really isn't fun for the people not drinking. And also one thing that I have learned is that when somebody cracks open a vodka bottle it's better to stop the game right there and then. Nothing good will follow.
