Do destroyed Ogres upload their brain to a server?
I saw something about how the self-aware Ogres comsider their own survival in combat situations. This got me to thinking, and I'm sure I saw a canon reference to Ogres sending their 'mind' back to base, so it can be uploaded to a new body. Is this a thing, or am I watching too much Battlestar Galactica?

There's also a reference to this practice in the early days of the webcomic _Schlock Mercenary_: https://www.schlockmercenary.com/2004-08-23 .
That said: I have *not* seen it referred to in _OGRE_ proper.

Thanks. Not sure where I saw it. Never read that comic, and only read a couple of Laumer's stories.

Yeah, it's not a thing in Ogre. Cybernetic brains in the setting are enormous devices and there appears to be no way to directly copy or transmit an Ogre's "program." GURPS Ogre goes into some detail as to how each cybertank's mind is based upon a "seed," and that Ogres are more raised than programmed.

OGRE MINIATURES Page 11 "The Descartes Revolution" has some great stuff from it's early inception to the Factory States concerning "OGRE brains" and how they were used over time.

I can see the poor guy cursing himself for not getting the unlimited data plan.
Maybe a neural net recovery vehicle that can do a hard fiber connection. Since it learns it might be worth trying to salvage and put it into a new shell. |

Re: Do destroyed Ogres upload their brain to a server?
But of course OGRE AI state data is uploaded to a server when destroyed.
This is not however, a form of Ogre immortality. Because the Factory AI's have their own agendas and cut up, edit, transcribe, and transplant bits and pieces here and there in their unending quest for the perfect Frankenstein minions. The OGRE's AI is really nothing more than input for the Factory AI's own neural net... nom, nom, nom. Heck, most of the time they don't even wait for an OGRE to "die" before they yank its mind-state, dissect it to taste and stick it back in -- and the OGRE never notices any of it... |
