Re: [Space/Thaumatology] Stargate: Fantasy - Worldbuilding thread
#2 it seems a natural progression to me.

#1, of course, plus a little bit of #2. "Enchanting" sounds right to me, but the existing gurps enchantment system feels wrong. Thus powers is the supporting choice.

Re: [Space/Thaumatology] Stargate: Fantasy - Worldbuilding thread
OK, three votes for 1, one vote for 2 alone, and one of the votes for 1 also supports 2; also one vote for 1 supports 4 as a secondary. This doesn't mean that it's impossible for items made by other styles to appear, or even for PCs to eventually learn how, but it will be rare and surprising.
Just an FYI, I'm going to probably be at NecronomiCon this weekend, and so should be leaving Thursday afternoon. I won't have access to my main computer then, and will have limited internet access (or very limited if the hotel loses wi-fi, which has happened to me before). So, I'm going to post the next question a little later today, and the one following it will ideally be posted some time Wednesday, or on Thursday morning, unless people ask for more time for people to vote in the one I'm posting today.

Re: [Space/Thaumatology] Stargate: Fantasy - Worldbuilding thread
Time Period Question I
First, let's vote up the general era, and then we can do another vote for a specific starting year (if #2 doesn't win) once the era is chosen. 1. The Future (2030s or later, Please specify when.) 2. 2027 (Same as Homeline and Centrum, especially fitting if we're doing interdimensional more than or instead of interstellar - this will trigger a vote on whether or how much this setting interacts with Infinite Worlds.) 3. Recent (2000s-2020s) 4. Modernish (1980s-1990s - consistent with the film from 1994, the show, which started in 1997, and some of the uniforms, which IIRC were more consistent with the 1980s.) 5. Atomic Age (1945-1970s - earliest era in which the canon Stargate movie makes about the same amount of sense.) 6. WWII (1939-1945) 7. Interwar/Late Dieselpunk (1920s-1930s) 8. WWI (1914-1918) 9. Early Dieselpunk (1880s-1910s) 10. Victorian/Late Steampunk (1837-1901 - yes, there's some overlap.) 11. Early Steampunk (1730s-1830s) 12. Clockpunk (pre-1750s, but probably shouldn't be much earlier than the 1550s.) 13. Some other era (please specify). Please remember to include the number(s) of your preferred option(s) when you vote. ******* Answer: OK, four votes for 4, which wins, three votes for 3, and one each for 8 and 13.

4: Modernish. The same time period as the movie, and at least the earlier seasons of SG1, seems appropriate.

Re: [Space/Thaumatology] Stargate: Fantasy - Worldbuilding thread
My votes are for 3, 4, or 8. I have a soft spot for WWI, so that would be fun. Part of the point of stargate is to run in contemporary times, as a secret history, so that would be a fun angle to take. Running it at the same time as the show also works.

Time period question 1
3 or 4. Anything farther away does away with the "Stargate" connection.

Re: [Space/Thaumatology] Stargate: Fantasy - Worldbuilding thread
For a Stargate set up, I would stay current, 3, 4 at the outside. Earlier than that would require to much limiting on Gould tech, later than that, just go with B5, Trek etc.

Time Period Question II Please post your preferred starting year between 1980 and 1999 in the Common Era system, e.g. '1997,' '1994,' '1985,' et cetra. In the event of a tie, I'll probably try to pick the year about midway in-between, unless there's to many votes in the tie. Feel free to discuss the vote, or anything you're hoping to see later in the thread, since as noted, I'm unlikely to be saying much here until I get back. ******* Answer: The average of the numbers offered is 1989.3, repeating; so, rounding down to 1989. Depending on the actual GM, of course, this might be fudged a bit, or might be the date of the movie-equivalent, with the show-equivalent starting a few years later. No longer valid.
