Acceptable actions with Compartmentalized Mind
Hello Group Mind...
What are the legal actions one can take with the mental maneuver gained with CM? Concentrate is the obvious one, but can one take any other maneuvers? Evaluate? Wait? Roll vs IQ an additional time to recover? Make an extra IQ based skill roll (Tactics perhaps)? What else can it do? As a side note, what kinds of cost multipliers would be appropriate for the following limitations? Concentrate Only? Spell Casting Only? One College Only? One Spell Only? Thanks Hive Mind!

Re: Acceptable actions with Compartmentalized Mind
I'd allow both minds to roll to recover separately, which give you better odds of at least one functional mind.
Wait is fine only if all parts of the action would otherwise be allowable. Skill rolls are obviously ok, but if you roll with *both* minds it's not like you instinctively know which one got the better MoS, and you could waste time "debating" the best conclusions. Evaluate *might* be too helpful in combat for what CM is intended for. |

Re: Acceptable actions with Compartmentalized Mind
I think the issue I have with wait being used by CM, is that while it's two minds it's still one body, one of those minds might be looking out for a particular trigger event while other is doing it's own thing. It's going to have to use the same body to react to the wait trigger that may already be being used by the other mind.
"This advantage does not allow your body to perform more than one task" However that said, if the wait triggered response was entirely mental* than I might allow it. And accordingly if the other bit of the CM wasn't using the body for anything that would be mutually exclusive to the wait response if the response was physical then I might allow it. E.g CM1 (2 compartments) 1st compartment is evaluating, 2nd is waiting to stop thrust, the wait is triggered, the stop thrust takes place but the evaluate is broken (but would apply to the stop trust if it was being targeted at the same target) *or not physical in a way that impede what the body is already doing. so for example casting a spell without needing physical actions or just needing words, of just need hand gestures with a hand not being used for anything Last edited by Tomsdad; 01-18-2016 at 12:57 AM. |

the following could easily related to spell collages rather the psi power categories.

Re: Acceptable actions with Compartmentalized Mind
I would allow an evaluate with each mind separately, and each mind spends their evaluate separately. The first round of combat one mind attacks, the other evaluates, the second round they switch. In effect it's a +1 to weapon skill in melee combat after the first second, because you're able to devote both minds to the task. If you're using Last Gasp, you only recover if both bodies evaluate or wait (take the worst bonus)!
Other things that I would think are reasonable: Using your extra mind to make observation checks every second, greatly reducing your chance of being surprised. Rolling separately for each mind to recover from a mental stun (not a physical one!), if either recovers you can act like a normal person with CM. Casting a spell that is uninterrupted by active defenses. Roll leadership or tactics to shout help in a fight even while pressing the attack against your own opponent (reliant on having a good view of the entire fight). Prepare two separate waits with very different triggers, the first one takes control of your body. Think through your reserves of knowledge with no penalty for multi-tasking.
