Monster Hunters 1 & 2 reviewed at Wired.com
Luke Bennett has reviewed GURPS Monster Hunters 1: Champions and GURPS Monster Hunters 2: The Mission at Wired's "GeekDad" blog:
http://www.wired.com/geekdad/2011/05...o-it-with-3d6/ What do you think of his assessment? Is he on the money or totally off base?

And then I thought, "Hey, I'm a fanboy. I'll just come out and say it." And I used that to set the flavour for the entire review. And the only comment so far is from someone that has ONLY said "Rifts" about twenty times. So... If you do have any comments, please follow the link and make them there as well. Ta muchly in advance.

I cannot speak of his assessment (Haven't gotten my hands on this series of books yet) but I can speak to the energy of the review. Very positive and upbeat. This is not the kind of game I'm looking to run right now but the review made me consider it. :)

Spot on, I would say. The new magic system and the deduction system were were each alone worth the entry fee for me. I'm not playing a MH at the moment, Tyneras has been charged with a Quest to defeat the dreaded Finals, who have loomed like a shadow over this fair University for many months. Once they are defeated, games shall be had!

Mmmn. Please have another go. If it still will not respond, let me know and I'll kick it upstairs.

No change. Now, one observation I should make is that I am not logged in, I don't have an account there to log into and I don't see making one... perhaps that is why, are non-logged in people disallowed from making comments? (I figured on having to enter my email or something when I made the comment)

I was hoping for a bit of comments which I could respond to, apart from 'Rifts....' Quote:

Re: Monster Hunters 1 & 2 reviewed at Wired.com
I don't know. Especially given MH's level of abstract combat it might be possible. My first instinct is to take MH and add Psionic Powers, Divine Favor, High Tech, etc, but I don't see why you couldn't go the other way.
Are rapid-fire rules in GURPS Lite? I know hit locations aren't which might be a problem if MH3 doesn't give you specific penalties for how hard it is to hit the vulnerable bits of each monster (vampires in particular). |
