For combat, making ranges shorter is mostly just a matter of doing the same thing to the listed ranges, and possibly to accuracy as well. Damage vs spaceship screens, armour, and HP will take a bit more work to balance, but that's something they'll need to do whether using Spaceships or not.

One thing that Spaceships is very useful for is defining all the parts and systems needed in a vessel.

So what the OP wants is quite doable if they're happy with slashing prices. It does make large and huge ships much more affordable for your would-be galactic emperors too, of course. TL-10^ 30,000 ton battleships cost a mere $100 million, and TL-11^ million-toners about $10 billion.

What I want to know is how can anyone know what are realistic prices for starship technology. Most of it doesn't exist and some of it is impossible anyways. I'd like to know how those prices were figured out, especially for starships.

I assume they don’t actually know they just assign prices that seem reasonable by the capabilities of the system.

And seem reasonable compared to other stuff. A spaceship laser should be more expensive than a laser rifle. A sensor with 10,000 miles range should be more expensive than one with a range of 1 mile. A spaceship power plant should be more than expensive than the one of a car.
