The first thing that pops into my head is something along the lines of "Zaphod Gambit." Something so crazy it should have no hope of working, yet does.

"Obtuse" gets used for this kind of behaviour in other contexts.

"Perverse" also comes to mind, and "stubborn" or more politely "single minded" but those are more traits of the person who engages in this sort of build.


Lateral? as in "Lateral thinking"? I know my math teacher accused me of going about things bass ackwards on a number of occasions but put down that I was a "lateral thinker" on my report card :D

I've used "Rube Goldberg" as a verb for this sort of thing: "He totally just Rube Golberg-ed that!"
