2.2 tons in total. No individual piece weighed anywhere near that much. Still, a groundbreaking and monumental discovery.

Maybe it's the first actual example of a team-building exercise.

Something awakened, and "they" came in taking a few years to hide the evidence planting generic but interesting archaeological material for the later research team to study.
Perhaps they missed something... something only one with just the right rare perceptiveness could find.

The Cistercian monks had their own number system in the late middle ages. It could only do the numbers 0 through 9,999, but it looks quite elegant. It was mostly used for dates and page numbers.
A video explaining the numbers (with some medieval sign language tangents) A simple explanation in print The numbers look very cool, very compact, and very "Ancient", like dwarven runes or something. Its a simple way to get authentic symbols that increase the feel of your game. You don't even need to use them as numbers: you can build an alphabet out of them as well.

Seen on an "isn't that cool" list, take with a grain of salt.
The Akhal-Teke horse breed has a metallic sheen to its coat. Edit: Here is a Link to the Wikipedia article. (Now that I'm on a computer, and not a phone.)

I'm impressed- that's a remarkably information-dense number system. I suppose if we need to generalize it to higher numbers, we could add additional staves, each of which records numbers 10,000 times as large as the previous staff.

Somewhat reminiscent of the Chinese / Japanese number system, where the large numbers increase in chunks of 10^4 rather than 10^3. (Among other scales. There's also one where the words refer to powers of ten where the exponent doubles at each step, so they wind up with names all the way up to 10^4096. Take that, google...)

Let’s review.
The only real negative is that they generate only a tiny trickle of energy (relative to size, so you could have a massive diamond generating a decent amount). Still, if you can’t think of gaming applications, I weep for your players.

Bulldog elected mayor in small town
https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifes...hash-kentucky/ The town has never had a human mayor, but each election cycle, people from around the world cast their votes to elect a canine one. It’s mostly just fun and a distraction from the tension of human politics, but each voter pays $1 per vote and proceeds go to the Rabbit Hash Historical Society. This year, they raised nearly $23,000. Possible plot seed with uplifted animals? |
