Default Using The charm spell too trick another player

i just played munchkin with a few of my friends and one of my friends was about too make a monster disappear because he couldn't defeat it and if he did defeat it he'd win the game so i told him i would help him for all the treasure (5) so he said okay and when i joined in i used my wizards charm spell too get rid of the monster and now he cant level up and i get all 5 treasures, but he says i cant do that cus by me joining him that defeats the monster. am i right or is he?

The helper can charm the monster to deprive the player from the winning level.

I agree. You can't help someone or ask someone to help if you are winning but under the rules time must be given for people to interfere to prevent the win. That includes you. Your friend should have been wary of you offering to help since the treasures would be worthless to you if he won the game. Your friend should have realised you were a wizard and that was a possibility.

A wizard helper using the charm spell is legal. The very important thing to remember is that people always have time given to them to stop the players in combat from winning, and a helper joining the combat doesn't somehow break that rule and allow for immediate, uninterruptible victory.

Are you quoting rules here? If so, I am not familiar with this one.

Yes, he is.

The rules say:

So, unless you are losing, you can't ask for help

this has been said in the past. I could be mistaken but I'm sure it was a ruling rather than a why would you ask for help if your winning. If you read the rules then under combat it has the statement "If you cannot defeat the monstor you have two choices - ask for help or run away". The exception to this is in munchkin bites where it says the same thing in the asking for help section. So it always introduces asking for help after saying IF you cannot win the combat. I don't believe that allows room for asking for help if you are winning. Please note I am quoting rules for the six sets I have. One of these is the new set of rules.

I will see if I can find the thread or perhaps Andrew or Erik can confirm this.

I'll confirm it now and save you the trouble of searching: You may not ask for help if you're winning.
