Default [SM] Alchemy, Amulets and Size Modifier

Are there any rules regarding SM and its interaction with Alchemicals?

Specifically, what about feeding a horse a healing potion, or giving said horse an Atlas Amulet?

Per Magic P.213, one dose of a Potion affects one man-sized creature instantly. Implying that you need multiple doses to affects larger creatures (such as your horse). No hint is given as to how many doses are needed for bigger creatures, nor if you get a break for smaller creatures. You could use average meal size multiplier (from Biotech), or scale the same as spells do (x2 doses for SM+1, for your horse, as an example).

On the other hand, if this is for Dungeon Fantasy, I wouldnt worry about it. No mention is made there of Barbarians getting (further) screwed for being SM+1, so neither should your horse.

Specifically the only time SM effects anything like this (consumables) in DF is Fairies and Rations, where they stock normal sized Rations, but one Ration lasts them 30 days. And technically Pixies carry SM 0 Canteens.

As for potions in DF, SM +2 Barbarian Ogres and SM -6 Fairies drink the same potions. Yes, wrap your mind around that for a minute.

I blame the Elder things.

They get the same effects, but it's not absolutely necessary for that to require them to consume the entire potion. Perhaps there is some *liquid* left after the Fairies use a potion, but since there isn't any *magic* left in the bottle, who cares? You'd just dump it out anyway.

Actually according to the Fetching and Carrying potion entry a single dose works on a horse the same as a man. (p.214 Magic)

Or the entry certainly doesn't imply that a larger being needs to be fed more than one of them.

Since amulets are kind of like enchanted items I'd personally treat them exactly as such. That is, most (if not all) enchantments assume that if the item they are being imbued into can fit the target then the enchantment does as well. So using your example, if the amulet can fit the horse's neck then its effects should affect it as well. That's how I read it anyways.
