Buying a Level with Gold and cards

When buying a level, is it possible to combine say, a 600 gold card with 400 gold ?

Yes. The rules explain that you can buy Levels with Gold and Items, and even explain what happens if you buy using only Items, which implies that both might be spent at the same time.

It may be because I have the german rulebook that there was some confusion. (I live in Switzerland). The formulation there is a bit unclear.
