[RPM] Life of a grimoire
Let’s say you have this ritual:
Fireball: Greater Create Energy (6) + Damage, External Burning 3d (0). 18 energy (6×3). And you buy a +5 grimoire to aid you in such ritual. Everything is OK, but then you become more powerful with magic and device the “greater fireball”. Could the same grimoire help you if you want to cast: Greater fireball: Greater Create Energy (6) + Damage, External Burning 6d (4). 30 energy (10×3)? It is practically the same ritual, but with improvements. Or did I waste my resources?

Re: [RPM] Life of a grimoire
See "Specific Definition" (RPM19). Things like damage amount aren't part of the Specific Definition, so you can freely modify this and still allow Ritual Mastery and/or any bonus from using a Grimoire to apply.

Re: [RPM] Life of a grimoire
If you think of a Grimoire as a book of magical recipes then you can only cook what's in the recipe and it will only work while you hold the magic book (Probably a further limitation).
If you think of a Grimoire as a treaties on the nature of fireballs and the source of their thauatological power with some sample incantations to start you on your path to mastery, then it's the quality of the book that represents the +5 not some enchanted quality, and the fireball you initially learn could be modified freely with study and experimentation. If two spells are basically the same advantage then you should only pay the difference between them |
