I think legendary is a good choice if someone wants to play or use 3.5 pretty much as is. It is a little msall in the font department and sparesely laid out but as a design or play tool its good enough -- I also liked the homemade XP chart

However the price of 3.5 books is likely to drop soon and there are an infinite number of SRD's (not to mention shadier things) out there it is in many ways a product without a clear niche.

Pathfinder, your nearest competition is D&D turned up a notch with some cool things fixed and some new material -- Legendary just doesn't seem as much fun or to really have a good raison du tre (sp?)

However if 4e sales are slack (and with the economy starting to slow they may well be) or there is substantial rejection of 4.0 (possible its not exactly what I would expect from my D&D ) it could be a decent performer. There are people who will like it

I personally may use even parts of it in my home brew "Wielders" setting --
