[Horror] Corruption and Time Use
In the game that I'm running (essentially Monster Hunters, using the Dresden Files setting), I have a character who has obtained a number of special abilities that are mostly physical in nature (Discriminatory Hearing, Discriminatory Smell, extra DX, ST, and HT, other) following an ill-advised (and ill-phrased) bargain with a powerful Fae. To reflect the effects of a Mantle of Power, we decided that he would use the Corruption mechanic from Horror - each time he actively used one of these abilities, he gained set number of Corruption points. As a result, he just recently passed the "begin making weekly checks" threshold.
My question is centered around how we should determine how many such corruption points he obtains during those empty spaces between story arcs. Right now, we have a rotating set of games with different GMs and my game runs mostly in real-time (e.g., I resumed running in January after a little more than a year had passed since I ran last; as a result, a little more than a year in gametime had passed as well. All six sessions took place around Christmas last year, and my next story arc begins this Friday and is going to be set in mid-February.) Now, as these enhanced abilities are mostly centered around physicality and the character in question is a very physical guy (sneaky Fae there, playing his strengths against him), it does not seem logical that he would not utilize any of those abilities during his off time, especially as the player has indicated he is intending on having the character be willfully blind to what is happening to him. Any suggestions on a mechanic to handle this?

Re: [Horror] Corruption and Time Use
I'd say he uses them at perhaps 1/5 the rate he does during games. Unless his life is as filled with danger and supernatural weirdness as the average game session is.

Re: [Horror] Corruption and Time Use
Find his effect level he has to roll against, that is Will - (Corruption points/10 rounded up).
Success adds (Margin of success x (Beginning amount of Corruption points/10 rounded up) corruption. Failure converts the corruption points into disadvantage points AND adds (Margin of success x (Beginning amount of Corruption points/5 rounded up) corruption points before taking away. Critical Failure adds (Margin of success x (Beginning amount of Corruption points/5 rounded up) corruption points THEN converts the corruption points into disadvantage points AND THEN adds (Margin of success x (Beginning amount of Corruption points prior to conversion/10 rounded up) corruption points before taking away. Do this every month or every week! for example: Dresden Holmes found out how to use hellfire in his last mission, its been a few months since we last saw him and... he started with 18 corruption points and his will is 12. first week: Will-1 = 11, rolled 8, added 6 points! total 24 Second week: Will-2 = 10, rolled 11, not enough yet for a conversion but added 5, total 29 third week: Will-2 = 10, rolled 7, added 9, total 38 fourth week: will-3 = 9, rolled 11, -1 point in disadvantages and added 16, total 29 fifth week: will-2 = 10, rolled 9, added 3, total 32 6th week: will-3 = 9, rolled 11, -1 point in disadvantages and added 13, total 20 7th week: will-2 = 10, rolled 8, added 8, total 28 8th week: will-2 = 10, rolled 9, added 6, total 34 9th week: will-3 = 9, rolled 14, -1 point in disadvantages and added 34, total 43 10th week : will-4 = 8, rolled 9, -1 point in disadvantages and added 9, total 27 11th week : will-2 = 10, rolled 8, added 3, total 30 12th week: will-3 = 9, rolled 12, -1 point in disadvantages and added 18, total 23 He now begins play with -5 disadvantage points and a total of 23 corruption points. |
