I've had various good interactions via the eBay messaging system as well. Sadly, in my primary area of collecting it tends to be older folks selling off their collections, or worse, widows of guys it turns out I knew twenty years ago.

EBay's been around, under one name or another, before most people ever used the Internet.
I didn't have an experience quite like the one in the post. But I did once find out that someone I thought I only knew online I had actually met in person.

I definitely have used eBay for a long time, I've heard enough horror stories of people being scammed that I tapered off using eBay.
And of course if someone is a fan of XKCD, you might get a live bobcat. |
