Default Stories

Hello everyone.

In the rules for original packet box, Steve mentioned a few stories that inspired him. Does anyone out there have a copy of the old rules, or just the list of stories. I know one of them was Along The Senic Route by Harlan Ellison. Several years ago I asked Steve himself, he said he had to dig out an old copy to find it. Sadly, that email, and email address, has gone by the wayside.

Or even some suggestions of Car Wars-esq stoires.

Thank you.

As you mention: "Along The Scenic Route", Harlan Ellison.

"Why Johnny Can't Speed", Alan Dean Foster. (This one's hard to find; only place I've seen it is in _With Friends Like These...._)

_Damnation Alley_, "Devil Car", "Last of the Wild Ones"; Roger Zelazny.

The moves _Duel_, _Mad Max_, and _Death Race 2000_.

The designers would like to acknowledge this game's debt to all of the battling autos of science fiction and spy literature. If you like this game, you ought to look at Harlan Ellison's "Along the Scenic Route," Alan Dean Foster's "Why Johnny Can't Speed" (source of the "Drive Offensively" motto), Roger Zelazny's "Damnation Alley," "Devil Car," and "Last of the Wild Ones," the films "Duel," "Mad Max," and "Death Race 2000," and every James Bond ever made.

I have been trying to convince the nice folks at Baen Books to put all these stories under a single cover, but no such luck so far.... :)
