oh, 100%. You should not call them the same thing as the Zelda race. A few layers of distancing are absolutely called for.

But desert elves are sick. Maybe I've played too much battle for wesnoth, but desert elves are really cool.

I've got no objection to that. And yeah, with the "Gerudo as elves" idea, that pretty much sets them as Desert Elves with a bit of an Amazonian twist.

Umm, unfortunately (unless the timeline hopped) that doesn't work as Gerudo didn't appear until Ocarina of Time (1998), two years after "current year" for this setting. Honestly I think "Gerudo but not by name" is fine. I was mostly looking for "Brown Ginger Desert Elves" anyway

OK, so they don't get called Gerudo, that works too.

Poll remains open, so this may not matter.

In a bit, I'm going to post a blank racial template sheet and blank character sheet template so that anyone who wants to post a new racial template or character has something standardised to work with. Really, I should have done that sooner.

Right, it's been a few days since the last vote. 4 gets three votes and wins, but I almost missed Varyon's vote due to formatting issues (it helps to clearly include the number rather than describe the option and say 'I'll go with that'). YES also wins, since the only votes that even mentioned the second part of the question all went with it.

OK, now I'm not sure what the next question should be. My current thinking is to ask that someone who knows the games well used the racial template sheet above to create a racial template for the Desert Elves, so that we can vote on whether to accept that template or need a different version.

Nah, the biggest question(s) is/are how many pts you want to spend. I suppose that's for the elves and your team member separately but it's all about the pts.

Yeah, I kept meaning to say something related and forgetting: My intention has been for the SG-1 expies to each be in the 250-275 point range, since I was planning to use templates from GURPS Action 1 for the Jack-expy and the Sam-expy. I think I might have mentioned the use of Action templates before, but never mentioned the planned point values. So, the Desert Elves need to have a point value that isn't too high for G'annan to have all the skills a Teal'c-expy would need in that point range, but that shouldn't be a problem unless the basis for the template is far more powerful than my limited knowledge of LoZ lore (cultural osmosis from being a nerd) has me thinking.

I was imagining G'annan being built with the Soldier template and lenses from PK's 4e conversion of GURPS Historical Folks (which lenses is probably a question to be voted on, but later), and then (along with the template) being built up to match the others, much as I was thinking of using a template for GURPS Horror for the Daniel-expy, adding Path/Book magic, and building him up to the cost of the others.

So, as long as the Desert Elf template doesn't go much past 70 points, it should be fine. Lower point-value than that is also fine, especially as we haven't yet even discussed whether he uses magic himself, or carries a magic weapon (the Jaffa version was going to have a custom Staff of Fireballs that might have been a Gadget to allow for power stunts, but since that's gone away, theere will be new Questions on that later).
