Default Question about Pyramid

(I have majot deja vu about this thread. Maybe I wrote it but forgot to post it...)

A short question... does Pyramid magazine have a set cycle of genres?

Its not a set cycle but they aim for themed issues and try to alternate between fantasy, modern and sci-fi.

Pk explicitly mentioned that there was a media blitz done for the AtE series, so there's obviously some planning that's involved.

It this point I wish someone dug out the staff's explanation why it isn't necessarily such a good idea. (Because I don't remember where to find it.)

When 3rd edition Pyramid first came out, there was an attempt to cycle between fantasy/historical, modern, and sci fi, in that order. That's since gone by the wayside (some of those categories simply get more articles and therefore more issues than others), though there's still some attempt to ascribe each issue into one of those, if only for navigation on the Pyramid site.

Thanks. Somehow I thought it was longer, with more detailed reasoning. Oh well.

I'm pretty sure it's been said on other occasions too - I recall someone stating that one of the undesirable behaviors is people just clicking on a +1 button instead of actually replying, using words, and thereby contributing to the conversation. Or I might be thinking of the polling functions, which are also generally disabled.

I suspect the same criticism could apply to both.

It's not that we got more articles, per se, but that demand for certain types of issues is so much higher. (Which, y'know, makes sense . . . fantasy is able to support several of the biggest game companies, so it's likely that there's more demand there.)

In recent years I've been making a stronger effort to try to make issues that appeal across genres, to increase the chances that readers find at least one article that applies to them. For example, Pyramid #3/93: Cops and Lawyers has a couple of articles specifically targeting a non-modern viewpoint. Breaking that cycle has also allowed for genres that were tricky before. (What era is Martial Arts? Is Infinite Worlds present -- because that's the assumption of the core campaign -- even if all the worlds it presents are set in the past?)

Mind you, as I say with every issue, I am eager to hear folks' thoughts . . . so if something's working or not working for you, please feel free to let us know.
