Default Can you play expeditious retreat to escape from your own combat?

Question in title.

The card says the following:

If you are helping in combat, play
this to remove yourself from the
combat without penalty. The main
player may ask for another helper
.
Or play before rolling to Run Away
to escape from all monsters in the
combat automatically. (You still
cannot escape from monsters that
automatically catch you.)

The second paragraph does not stipulate you must be a helper, so I assume you could use it to escape from your own losing combat.
