Default Sailing Vessels and Shape Air

The Wizard Lester has hired onto a ship traveling from Port A to Port B. He knows Shape Air at 15. His main duty is to cast this spell and target a sail, recasting for all 7 sails on the two masted ship. The last couple of castings take a bit of time because of 'spell on' penalties but at the 1 energy pt level and his skill means he spends no fatigue casting or maintaining them.

At that level, the spell produces a 'Gentle Breeze', which translates on the Beaufort Scale as a wind moving between 8 and 12 mph, hereafter treated as the quite conveniient median number, 10. The ship is becalmed at somepoint in the journey and his spells are what is moving the ship.

Given a captain who knows the optimal direction to specifiy for each sail, and a more or less straight ahead course, how fast will the ship travel with 10 mph winds pushing it?

You know, they dealt with this...somewhere. I'll see if I can find it.

Considering that they always have a tailwind and the seas are calm, the shape of the hull would determine how much less than 10 mph they'd be going.
