Re: April 27, 2021: Counterfeit Games
I find it appalling that people will stoop to counterfeit anything. While I understand the life pressures and conditions in some countries that give rise to this behaviour, it doesn't provide any justification.
My family used to own a music business, decades ago before the Internet, that designed and produced specialist music papers for composers and musicians. My father had created quite a few innovations that made his products popular in this niche market. But over time, he discovered businesses that were copying his innovations and it was really hard to do anything about it. I think the main strategies to combat counterfeiting at this time are really about building loyalty with customers, exposing companies that counterfeit, and creating an aesthetic around authenticity and craftsmanship. Hopefully in the future, there might be some social and political pressure brought to bear on countries where this behaviour is enabled. Until then, I'm one customer who will only ever buy the real thing. |
