Default Happy Birthday, Traveller!

In a Tweet, Marc Miller notes:

"Today, July 22 is Traveller’s birthday: published July 22, 1977 at the Origins Game Fair in Staten Island, New York. Traveller is 45 years old today."

I was AT that convention, Origins III.

I went to the GDW booth and looked over Traveller, but bought a copy of Triplanetary instead.

The first time I heard about Traveller was in a magazine article. It wasn't an RPG magizine. I think it was an ordinary news magazine running a human interest piece but I can't remember the name. The next I heard from a tabletop wargames manual which I still have somewhere.

I remember seeing Traveller and MegaTraveller displays at our local game shop in the 80s, but it didn't pique my interest then.

My first and only exposure to the game (until recently) was actually via the two MegaTraveller games on my Amiga, but by that time I'd lost interest in tabletop RPGs.

I've since picked up the Classic Traveller LBBs and am enjoying them!

I missed out on Traveller, but saw MegaTraveller in the store. The picture on the Player's Manual hooked me, right away you realize, "those people are in trouble."
