Þ et al are useful but English gets by without them with no problem. We gave up a few cool letters but don't have to worry about declension (except with pronouns, for some reason), and that's a trade I'll take any day.

Now, what we should have never abandoned is the second person singular.

English is oft described as mugging other languages for new vocabulary. The only muggers I've know were both lazy oafs...
