Perhaps instead of saying that you need to be in HTH combat against them the rule should say that they need to be in combat with you. Then multihex creatures that are trampling you would be immune, even if you declared yourself in HTH. OK, that's not a particularly good rule mechanic.

It would be nice if pins, magic ropes, whips, bolas, nets, etc. all worked the same way. For instance, the weapon might inflict tangle hit points, and if your tangle hit points (plus wounds, plus fatigue?) exceed your ST then you are tangled. Each turn you can try to get rid of some tangle hit points by taking an action, using a knife to cut yourself free, whatever.

I've sometimes thought knockdown hit points would be a better way to represent knockdowns as well.

Simply: if it has more hexes than you, you may not attempt to pin it.

So a ST 6 Goblin with UC III still automatically pins a ST 60 troll?

With my grappling house rules, the DX penalty imposed by being grappled is based on the size of the grappler relative to the victim. These rules allow for numerous small assailants to impose a grappling penalty on a much larger foe.

I'm almost with you. Some 2-hex critters can be pinned, I think. Otherwise, no steer wrestling in the rodeo.

Big advantage if your target lacks hands.

No. Why would you suggest that?

Maybe you missed both the title of that thread, as well as the first line of the house rule: pin attempts always require at least 3/DX.

In my linked house rule, a ST 6 goblin would need to roll 3/DX, and their DX would be at -27, and since I also house rule that you need a positive modified attribute score to even try, again they would have no chance at all.
