Drug-Dependent Advantage?
I could swear there was a Limitation somewhere in 4th Edition for an Advantage that requires a regular medical treatment to maintain, but I can't find it. Does anyone know where I can find it?

Re: Drug-Dependent Advantage?
There's a couple of things that could model an advantage that depends on dose of drugs: Trigger, for when it's only available for a brief period after a dose, and Temporary Disadvantage: Maintenance, for when the drug regimen is a more involved process that requires some skilled people to apply, and missing it means the advantage will possibly shut off.

Re: Drug-Dependent Advantage?
I use a power modifier for this:
Chemical (-10%): These abilities are dependent upon some form of chemical/alchemical potion being applied to the body on a regular basis, whether through ingestion, inhalation, or injection. This potion is the equivalent of Maintenance (One Person; Weekly) (-5%); the potion takes at least an hour to create, and must be applied at least once weekly to maintain the effects. In addition, the effects of the potion can be counteracted through other pharmaceutical means meant to flush the potion from the body (-5%).

Re: Drug-Dependent Advantage?
In Bio-tech they use Mitigator for this.

I used addiction for a koala mage who needed Eucalyptus leaves to stay focused (B122).
I do like the power modifier though; that way you can mitigate disadvantages as well as remove advantages. |

Re: Drug-Dependent Advantage?
Not for Advantages, as far as I could tell.
I wound up just going with a low-level Accessibility for a cheap daily drug dose. It didn't really matter in this case because it was an 8-point advantage, but honestly -10% seems like a bit much. I'd probably go with -5% if it made a difference. |

Re: Drug-Dependent Advantage?
Now that I look at it, not directly. What I was remembering was the Neural Augmentation which was wriitten up as Basic Speed 3 and Total Klutz with the Mitigating drug on the Total Klutz. So you do need to take your Pink Noise but that's not to keep your Speed tunred _on_.
Going a bit deeper there is an Telepathy Advantage that requires a simple drug to turn on in Vorkosigan but you seem to have a good enough answer..

Quote:
There's a writeup of Maintenance being used as a Temporary Disadvantage on p.116 of Powers, and the trick is that you say that instead of losing HP, you lose the use of the Advantage. This should transfer to Dependency too, which is just Maintenance without skilled help. |
