How do we reconcile increased fossil fuel use with increased fusion power generation? Post 6, above has the issue written up. Roll of 5, up to 5 sentences. Answer 6 In 2039, a breakthrough was achieved in controlled fusion at the Cadarache facility in France. Three short years later, under the supervision of the Sada Corporation, the first fusion power plants were constructed. Despite the obvious and immediate threat the climate crisis posed, the [RECORD DELETED] Administration remained inflexible and refused to authorize the construction of Fusion Power plants. While they cited the strategic threat of importing fusion reactors could pose (i.e. from sanctions and trade embargoes), critics suggested that the real cause was the need to protect the fossil fuels lobby. China and other developing nations used this to excuse their expanding fossil fuels consumption, which fed Russian imperialism. Question 8 How far after the apocalypse are we setting? Roll of 2. |

Re: [GAME] After the End, Worldbuilding
Answer 8:
After... no... this is an apocalypse still ongoing. While it has been almost one hundred years since the skies burned with nuclear fires and the old Global Powers were swept aside in the blastwaves, the climate refuses to admit it has won, after all, humans still exist and the earth is not yet free of them. Question 9: What role do the off-earth colonies play, if any, in the post-apocalyptic world? 1d6 roll: 1 (Sorry, I missed that there was a question 7) Last edited by evileeyore; 12-14-2019 at 08:13 PM. |

The true fools laid in lots of guns and ammunition, but failed to consider that every human being who needs to live in a harsh, labor-intensive environment requires about 1.8 million calories per year in mixed vitamins, proteins and carbohydrates, as well as at least 300 gallons of clean, potable water for drinking, alone. Most backyard bunkers lasted less than six months, and even remote settlements in isolated parts of the developed world soon understood that industrial-scale farming requires an industrial infrastructure to provide medicine, fuel, other chemicals, lubricants, tires and spare parts. Moreover, a lot of the preppers fantasized about the end of the world because they lacked the education, self-discipline and emotional maturity to prosper in the modern world, and they carried those flaws with them as the collapse began. In fact, many preppers hastened the collapse because they turned into raiders, as they realized they'd utterly failed to take into consideration the need for cooperative effort in planting a crop, bringing it to harvest and protecting the gains from people such as themselves. Question 10: Given that so many so-called "preppers" failed so pathetically, what unexpected group managed to achieve reasonable self-sufficiency as civil society crumbled? Dice roll: 1 sentence

Simple, the people who always had self-sufficiency, the Amish, small family farms and ranches, and small clusters of recreationists (who mostly joined the previous groups) have managed to hold on to and create small farming communities, some are free, but most bow their heads to local warlords and raider bands. Question 11: Aside from the extreme seasonal weather that still batters the survivors and raiders, what other dangers do the survivors face? 1d6 roll: 6 |

Answer 9:
The offworld colonies are the refuge of the rich who, having the means, left the poor to deal with the mess they created. Question 12: How do uplifted animals feel about having their innocence ripped away by the same species that broke the world?

Question 12:
How do uplifted animals feel about having their innocence ripped away by the same species that broke the world? I Rolled a 5: Answer 12 Most uplifted animals are uneffected by being uplifted animals. Many are effectively completely new creatures built with animal characteristics, though there are a small number cybernetically modified types which experience atavism. In general, uplifted animals experience some degree of anger against their Human creators, though it is mostly not caused by environmentalism. In fact, many aquatic Uplifts are joyful, as the shelf areas they inhabit are growing (ocean acidification is being offset by GM organisms). However, Uplifts do have an outsized impact in environmental terror groups, including the all-Uplift Gaia's Fury organization, which creates the appearance of overwhelming environmentalism amongst Uplifts. Question 13(a-e) What are some notable kinds of Uplifts? (1 Sentence a-piece) |

Terrorform, the offworlders are still doing their bit to improve the earth, with apparently no concern for who the squash in the process. Orbital strikes to create new inland seas, lasers burning firebreaks, mats of G.E. algae seeded by drone, there is little that earth's inhabitants can do in the face of these seemingly random events. Occasionally robots are seen, the pervading theory is that they are either salvaging the treasures of earth for the offworlders or were subverted by the remnants of the A.I.s. There are stranger threats as well, the pseudocoral that was sown along the coast has grown far larger than originally planned, who knows what lives within. Question 14 What's a good question for this setting? (Here is a chance for lurkers to throw something into the mix or simply open things up a bit) Question 15 Have any factions or groups managed to maintain vehicals? (Roll of 3)

Anyone can easily get their hands on a vehicle; look around a city and it's easy to find bikes, just be sure to pedal fast in case someone else wants it. Motorized transport is harder to get your hands on and especially power, you need a generator for electric cars and hard to find gas for non-electrics. Some have had success with nuclear batteries scavenged from robots, and there are always stories about people who've persuaded a robot to let them ride around, but this is rare. Question 16 What is a notable hotspot, and what makes it special? (Roll of 1) |

Silvesters: As uplifts based on some of the world's most successful dedicated predators, Felis Sapiens Brin tend to create communities of loosely-affiliated family groups who stake out territory in the remaining forests of the high latitudes and high altitudes, where they carefully tend herbivore populations as a form of enlightened self-interest. NovaCoons: Originally meant as an experiment in cognitive design and never really intended for release to market, about six dozen of the unexpectedly brilliant Procyon Sapiens Brin escaped from the corporate lab outside of Fort Collins, Colorado, with the help of some monkey-wrenchers who arranged a power-outage. Delphies: Some of the most intolerant of all uplifts, Delphinidae Sapiens Apollus work hard to clean up the slowly recovering oceans, and react with carefully planned, frequently lethal violence to any polluters who make that job more difficult. Octopodes: Originally designed to assist with submarine tasks, especially pollution control and resource extraction in the world's oceans, Enteroctopus Sapiens Cthulhu (they chose the designation, themselves, by popular vote) the octopodes bear the least biological resemblance to their genetic antecedents, as the engineers transformed them to K-reproduction strategies (small numbers of children produced over time) so as to increase lifespans. Question 17: In the initial nuclear exchange, who were the belligerents? Dice Roll: 3 sentences. (Took me a little while to think of one.)
