That's Felis catus, for those of you following this at home.

No Anthony. It's a sign your cat is trying to kill you.

I can't add anything to RL examples but check out the Kzin from Larry Nivan's Known Space. He has been writing in that setting since the early 60s.

Then the joke will be on my cat. I'll taste like broiled chicken (What would you taste like to a cannibal, same page), and my cat doesn't like broiled chicken.

I gave up on that a long time ago. Same thing with Canis lupus, really. Nobody who isn't a vertebrate biologist actually cares or will believe you.

Felis domesticus is what I learned in 9th grade, and I haven't had a biology class since. Wikipedia suggests there's some momentum behind Felis silvestris catus as well.

I'm afraid that that reflects poorly on your ninth grade teacher, though perhaps this is not the time and place for a digression on the rules of nomenclature.

Yes. I'm still vainly waiting for evolutionary taxonomists to make up their minds and all agree, and then explain what they have finally decided upon to the rest of us :-)

My housecat used to leave the carcasses of deadly snakes on the front doorstep, but I couldn't decide if it was a tasteless joke or just boasting.
