Default Arm ST vs Striking ST and Lifting ST

Arm ST applies to "efforts to lift, throw, or attack....". For my hypothetical two-armed character, it costs 5 pts. per level. B40

Lifting ST applies to Basic Lift for "carrying, lifting, pushing, and pulling....and to grappling, choking, etc." For my character, it costs 3 pts per level. B65

Striking ST applies to "calculating thrust and swing damage...." For my character, it costs 5 pts. per level. B89.

Why would I ever buy Striking ST?

Striking Strength covers kicking and biting as well as punching.

I think Arm Strength only covers lifting things one handed, no resting it on your shoulder or back.

I also allow Leg ST, and calculate effective Move as for encumbrance of that ST rather than base ST. It also improves kicking damage and Jumping.

If you just wanted to stat a better gripping strength (very powerful hands FREX) how would you value Lifting ST for that?

I would be willing to call that 1 point a level if all it did was make it harder to disarm but I would think it would be used for far more like grabbing someone and holding on better so very leery of it.

Mathulhu I agree with kicking and biting; I didn't think of that until right after I posted. I didn't imagine my hypothetical character doing either, but good point. Arm ST does specifically allow you to buy it for more than one arm, though.

Figleaf23, how much do you charge for Leg ST?

As for grabbing question, I imagine that would affect grappling.

I charge 3 per level for Leg ST. That way Arm ST plus Leg ST plus 1 HP equals the 10 cp of 1 level of normal ST.

Wouldn't that imply that your leg strength includes back strength?

I arrive at the same price by treating Leg ST as Arm ST with No Fine Manipulators. Now, that breaks for arms that double as legs, but in that case, you really need to get it as Arm ST, unless it's stronger when acting as a leg than when acting as an arm.
