Re: (IC) Lost In Dreams [Peter]
ok, the basics of the chase rules are they take an abstract amount of time, have "range bands" of close (melee range), short (7-10 yards), medium, long, and farther distances that really won't matter hear because you're low tech and its night.
Each round (30 seconds to a minute) you roll a quick contest of something you can justify as a chase skill (in this case its your DX vs their DX-based riding) and if someone wins by 5 or more they can change range bands as they wish. Your speed gives you a bonus from the size/range table (+2 for move 5, +4 for a horses top speed being 10+). Move and attack gives a -2 to the chase roll, stopping to fight gives you a calm, aimed, timed attack, and lets them change a range band. Hiding is -5 at medium range and -10 at short range-- though the terrain you're in and the lighting will help. (You're running for a forest in the dark)

Okay... Do I have to change something? Do you need something more than that Peter is running away hoping they can lose them and using his Voice if they catch him? I'm not sure what you are looking for to proceed.

Re: (IC) Lost In Dreams [Peter]
No, we're waiting on me figuring out what to do next.
It looks like Peter is only using the voice if things get really close (so close range). Which they probably will, because DX 11 is pretty low for this sort of thing. Fourth round: The two remaining groups each take move. Peter rolls a 9, succeeding by 4: DX 11 + 2 (move). The horsemen roll a 10, succeeding by 6, Riding 12 + 4 (move) There is no shift in range bands. They fail to gain on Peter and Rajat. Fifth round: everyone takes move, and then rolls an 11: no range shift (horsemen win by 3, but that's not enough). You enter the forest. The chase is still on, but its darker and hiding places are aplenty. The forest ends the ability of the horses to use their top speed for the bonus: now they have +3 instead of +4. Lighting was -5, now its -7. Hiding is only really an option at medium range or longer though. At that point, you have a -3 to the attempt from needing to find a spot at medium range (-10 for you) and the poor lighting (-7 for them). Leon and Ann are ahead of you, as is Rajat. You're not sure where goliath is...he's the fastest of you by far. Any change in actions?

No change in actions... He will try and lose them in the woods, and face them if they catch them.

Re: (IC) Lost In Dreams [Peter]
Sixth round: Peter rolls a 13, they roll a 12. Peter rolls complementary skill survival(forest). Relative skill gap is +1. No change.
Seventh round: Peter rolls a 7, they roll an 11. Peter critically suceeds at complementary skill survival(forest). Relative skill gap is +0. They are now at medium... you can try to hide if you want now, or keep running.

Re: (IC) Lost In Dreams [Peter]
Eighth round: Peter and company attempt to hide.
Modifiers for Peter: +2 for speed -10 for hiding at medium range -2 for hiding in the dark (half of -4 darkness penalty after night vision) +3 for plenty of good hiding spots +1 for complementary survival (forest) roll -6 total, based on stealth Peter rolls a 12. Modifiers for chasers: +3 for speed -7 darkness penalty -4 total, based on riding Chasers roll a 12 The chasers win the roll, closing in on Peter and Rajat's position... you can go back into the chase, but at close range, or you can go to combat.

Re: (IC) Lost In Dreams [Peter]
I'm confused why there is a penalty to use stealth in the dark. That seems reversed.
I would think that the forest and trees in the dark at medium range would eliminate the speed bonus of the horses, and ruin LoS giving a big bonus, not a negative 10. this seems reversed too. How far away were they when we tried to hide? These chase rules aren't doing it for me in play by post... maybe when you're in real time and can have interactions on the quick contests and they are actually quick, or if I know the modifiers before making decisions, it might be different, but here it just seems very tedious. We're over two weeks into "I run away and try to lose them and use my voice if they catch us" now. Peter would still like to avoid the direct confrontation, but I'm ready to stop and face them just to get on with it. |

We'll use the house-ruled "low tech chase" hiding modifier of -5 at medium. Which means the chase is over: your pursuers have lost you. You think you know where Rajat is, but no one else.
