What books do I need to run tactical space battles with GURPS 4e?
I'm interested in running a science fiction setting with Star Trek/Eve Online style space battles. Ideally, I'd like to have a setting where the players could operate different aspects of the ship and roll for their assigned stations. Piloting, engineering, etc. I have the Basic Set, Space 4e, and Prime Directive, but I don't see details in any of them for things such as Shield HPs, structural damage, maneuvering, etc. Does GURPS publish any books with rules for this type of combat? |

Also, GURPS Space has a set of combat rules, but they're more focused on character actions and dramatic flow than in-depth game stats for ships. Then there's the Traveller line; the 4e incarnation is mostly GURPS Interstellar Wars, which has a version of the Traveller ship design system and combat.

Yeah, GURPS Space is mostly about campaign building, GURPS Traveler and GURPS Prime Directive are specific settings, and the Spaceships series is about the ships. Though some books have related rules such as the Merchant book covering mercantile rules.

To clear this up somewhat Spaceships 1 is the corebook with shipbuilding and a mapless combat system. Spaceships 3 has a mapped combat system and Spaceships 7 has components for weird ships (like the TARDIS).

I would note that tactical space battles wind up not being terribly interesting. The rules for cinematic space combat in Spaceships 4 may help spice things up.
