Re: How to calculate shaped-charge damage for theoretical explosives?
For missile warheads at mid TL7+ with a generic HEAT design, VEHICLE DESIGN's comprehensive weapon and warhead design system changed the damage calculation to use dice of damage equal to the (cube root of WW) ¥ Sct. Then round off as usual and add armor divisor.
WW is warhead weight in lbs. Sct from shaped charge TL: TL7 is 24, TL8 is 36, TL9 is 54, TL10+ is 72. I needed to use WW rather than, say, warhead diameter as I wanted numbered that worked for bombs and similar munitions. For guns use projectile weight/1.5 if smoothbore or /2 if rifled guns. Early TL7 HEAT designs should have a 0.3 multiplier to damage. The linked conventional explosion matches that of a conventional warhead of similar caliber with or without frag depending on HEAT or HEDP. Multi-stage HEAT and other exotica have special rules.
