Anything in complete darkness, fog, smoke, or where there are obstacles to sight.
I think critters like slimes would still be able to find you in complete silence and darkness.

It's also been used to cause a subject to freak out, by casting it on them while they were walking where they made noise . . . and then stopped making noise - causing them to get confused and panic.
Nice!

DCG's LAW (TFT-lite) doesn't have a Silent Movement Spell, but they have a Skill "Stealth" Evade detection on 3/DX.

;-) yep, I'm old.
Dang it, I gave away too much -- LOL! That actually is the name given to the spell, but it's in something unpublished, so I thought I'd leave out some details. hehehehe

I imagine there must be cases where Silent Movement (the talent) would fail you, but Silent Movement (the spell) might still work. Skarg mentioning squeaky stairs has set me to thinking about this.

All this reminds me of the time my character was ambushed by a blind Giant with innate acute hearing who was waiting for me in a totally dark room. That got ugly fast.

What is the radius of effect of the Silent Movement spell? If the figure is climbing a rope does the rope make any scraping sounds?

Ah, Nightinggale Floors. Used in Japanese castles to make it impossible for assassins/ninjas to sneak about undetected. That is a historical thing built to defeat Silent Movement talent but Silent Movement spell would still work.

In situations like this, wouldn't Stealth Movement 3/DX become a 4/DX or 5/DX?

GM's call. But yes, that is better.

Woe was me, that was my 2nd dungeon crawl. The year was 1978, and neither that spell nor any Talents existed yet.

(The GM had decided his blind Giant could function as well in total darkness as a sighted Giant could in normal lighting, whereas all the PCs were at -4 adjDX, and couldn't even tell the Giant was there, effectively invisible, holding his club aloft and just waiting for someone to walk by. The players protested strongly when the Giant got a free attack the moment I stepped into it's front hex, turning me into mashed potatoes. We demanded and got a do-over, and my PC survived in the end.)

A whole new twist on going clubbing. I love memorable encounters.
