Default Magery : another limitation cost ?

Hi,
I wonder what modifier for this magery limitation : only works when absorbing/exposed to special (rare) substance, for a given period of time (minutes, hours, days ??).
What if substance adds drawback effects ?
TIA

Sounds like Preparation Required + Maximum Duration.

Take a look at the rules for the Nuisance effect and Temporary Disadvantage limitations to see if they can cover the drawback effects you have in mind.

Also, isn't there limitations like day- and night-aspected? I don't have the books here, so I'm working from memory. If you only need to be in the presence of the substance for the Magery to work, you could possibly model your custom limitation on them.

Maybe it's similar to Environmental or Trigger. Or look at how to build a special Power Modifier in GURPS Powers.

I would look at the trigger limitation (Character p115) and trigger, extended (PU8 p18) and/or periodic recharge ( PU8 p16).

Preparation required require concentration, so it doesn't fit imho.

There was a magic variant using powdered gems introduced in Mad Lands, I think, and included in Thaumatology. That might give you a working example.
