Default Can the Sidekick: Rogue steal a Ship?

Just a quick question I couldn't find the answer to by browsing the forums. Can the Sidekick: Rogue card steal a ship since it is a non-wearable item? This doesn't seem like it would make much sense, but I just wanted to see if I could find an official ruling. Also of note is the fact that the Sidekick: Rogue card specifically says "any non-wearable Item carried by another player". Since in the rules for Star Munchkin Space Ships it specifically says "Ships carry themselves." this would imply that they are not carried by a player. But maybe I'm taking that too literally.

Anyways simply put can a Sidekick: Rogue steal a ship?

Assuming the Rogue follows normal theft rules with the added stipulation that the item not be wearable, then no. Big items can not be stolen, and ships are big.

With the exception of Super Munchkin, the rules for Theft are on the cards that provide that ability, so there are no "normal" theft rules, especially since Super Munchkin allows for stacking theft abilities, which is not "normal" either. As for Sidekick: Rogue, it makes no mention of Big Items, so there is absolutely no reason to assume that Big Items are excluded. It just so happens that there are no Big Items in Super Munchkin prior to the addition of Star Munchkin: Space Ships.

Furthermore, the Space Ships rules state, "All Ships are Big items, which does not matter if you are playing only Star Munchkin."

However, I will give some traction to the notion that those rules also say that Ships carry themselves, and Sidekick: Rogue says it can only take non-wearable Items carried by a player. That doesn't, however, mean I'm giving a final answer, and I'll need to confer with Andrew to see how we want to handle this. There's no need to debate the possible correct answer while we confer.

This, unfortunately, calls into attention why one shouldn't answer questions about cards they don't know about.

It absolutely does. My apologies.

What makes this particularly embarrassing on my part is that I usually point to the "Cards override the Rules" section early on in my demos. There's no better example of this than race/class/accent/etc. abilities. Obviously this extends to the abilities of a hireling or sidekick not mirroring a similar ability. I'll refrain from answering things before caffiene as well.

But if the Ships are carrying themselves, then they are not being carried by a player, are they?

Sidekick: Rogue follows all the usual rules for theft, including not being able to steal Big items. The text on Rogue doesn't say that because until Space Ships and Star Munchkin 3, there weren't any Big items in Star Munchkin.

This is an official answer.
