This character is quickly shaping up to be an absolute monster, roughly 380 points before Disads. Two are obvious, given her upbringing: Asceticism and Ritualism Disciplines of Faith. Since she’s presumably a mendicant, either Struggling or Dead Broke would fit; her starting wealth should be enough for a staff, a bow and arrows, and her knife. And clothes and travelling basics of course; a skyclad nun is an amusing thought, I admit, but just might be going a bit far. Pacifism (Cannot harm innocents) is classic, but more than that just doesn’t fit with someone who’s got about 90 points in combat skills.

I mean, Batman, Himura Kenshin, and Vash the Stampede are all combat monsters with Pacifism (Cannot Kill). Vash even has a Sense of Duty to all living animals that prevents him from killing them as well. If anything, being an amazing combatant makes it easier to avoid killing, as you outclass most foes. However, that may be rather problematic for someone who is part of the murim (the world of martial artists in a wuxia story, which I'm assuming is what this character is meant to fit in, and where there are always others at or above your level) - while I've seen cases of such who prefer to avoid killing, they are certainly capable of it when the situation requires it.

One more I'd recommend: Code of Honor (Xia).

I've been designing a character (also a martial artist) with more than that and Pacifism (Self-Defense Only). She'd prefer to make peace, but if she has to throw down to protect herself or others, then she'll demonstrate lightning speed and incomparable skill. (She also competes in sporting matches.) Perfectly normal, as well as reflecting the mentality of her style (Pa Kua Chuan plus Chin Na).

A very broad Sense of Duty is appropriate. Always ready to help anyone who has a problem, looking for lost livestock, helping a carter with a broken wheel, stopping to tend to the ill etc

If it's an extremely Taoist character, you could even combine Sense of Duty and Callous - someone who feels called to aid everyone impartially and refuses to get particularly invested in anyone.

"Heaven and Earth are not humane.
They regard all things as straw dogs.
The sage is not humane.
He regards all people as straw dogs."

So far I have the following disads:

Code of Honour (Xia) -10
Asceticism -10
Ritualistic -5
Sense of Duty: Those who require aid -10
Pacifism: Cannot Harm Innocents -10
Social Stigma: Unattached Woman -5
Charitable -15
Truthful -5

And Quirks:

Uncomfortable with sexuality -1
Wary around men -1
Dislikes large open spaces -1
Prefers darker surroundings -1
Desires to learn miracle rites -1

I imagine the nunnery where she grew up to be similar to the Temple of Aku from Samurai Jack: a network of caves and caverns adjacent to a large, lush forest ringed by mountains except for a pass through which the river flows. She's never been beyond the pass before, so fields and plains are new to her. And a bit weird. Two of the women of the temple are Taoist sorceresses (using Effect Shaping Path magic), and she hopes that one day, the spirits will favour her (grant Power Investiture). Until then, she takes any convenient opportunity to learn about the subject.

Note that Taoism also has its ethic, which I represented in Chinese Elemental Powers as a minor Vow. The Three Treasures are mercy, frugality, and "daring not to put oneself first." Though giving the same character Buddhist,Taoist, and xia disads might be over the top; it may be better to pick one disad that most accurately represents the beliefs of these particular nuns.

This is far too much overlap for full points, IMO.

Charitable is basically that SoD with some extra bits on top, so I would definitely only allow one or the other. But since Charitable has a self-control modifier, you could instead take a lower control number.

I was thinking the two overlapped, but I wasn’t sure, or what to do about it. Should I drop Charitable, or just reduce its value?
