Does SJG have a preference for purchasing here? Unusual to have it on W23 and Kickstarter at the same time.
I figure you get more money if I buy it off W23 and I can post more about it to hype it up.
But kickstarter numbers have higher visibility.

I'm in Australia so the cost of shipping is *always* awful - even before the current craziness. We also have a 10% Goods and Services Tax (GST) that must be paid on imports. Despite this, I still intend to buy a copy of two of this book - even if I need to use a reshipment service to do it. I may need to take out a second mortgage, but sacrifices must be made for Mad Science!

Am I reading the Kickstarter correctly; If I pledge for the Hardback, I do not get a .pdf file as well?

What Phil said was that the Kickstarter rewards haven't been decided yet, and cannot be decided until the most expensive elements – printing and shipping a hardback – are locked down. Once that's done, we'll know what combinations of what we can offer at what prices. Fortunately, the Kickstarter is "to come," not "today," so we have time for that!

The prerelease PDF, meanwhile, is unrelated to the Kickstarter. We're putting it out there for dedicated fans who want something they've been waiting 19+ years to get hold of, because it's ready (and pretty!) enough for that, so we'd rather not keep them waiting even longer. People must decide for themselves whether they want the prerelease PDF now through Warehouse 23 (with a guarantee of getting the release PDF in their account once it exists) and/or the hardback later through Kickstarter and/or the hardback much later through Warehouse 23 and/or to hold out for the possibility of a hardback + release PDF bundle through Kickstarter.

As far as I know, one thing we can't do is count Warehouse 23 dollars toward a Kickstarter. It just isn't set up to work that way. If I'm wrong, Phil will correct me and I'll delete this paragraph for posterity.

Yes, but I'm terrible. Anyway, I just wanted to be clear. I'm someone who has bought the prototype of a gadget at full price six months before it was released with a second gadget, accessories, and a nice case at a lower price, simply to have the basic gadget sooner. Some of us are like that. :)
