The Servitors (this is their official name), were designed and constructed by a team of geneticists under Former Academician Abbi Rowland, years before the yellow expedition. Rowland initiated the project in part because of her fascination with tentacled creatures from fiction of Old Earth, and because maintenance of vertical access tubes was, I quote, "a bloody nuisance". Controversy erupted immediately after the project was unveiled and sales opened. Some considered the Servitors abominable sights, others took exception to the sale of living creatures, and others saw them as an intolerable threat to the jobs of zero-gee maintenance people. In the wake of the controversy, Rowland was expelled from the Republican Academy of Sciences, and a freeze was instated on further biogenesis, so all living Servitors today were born, not made. Question 39 (6 sentence) What ever happened to Abbi Rowland? Question 40 (4 sentence) What's the status of the Servitors? (Chattel Slaves, Serfs, Residents, Citizens, something more unusual, a mix, etc.) Last edited by TGLS; 11-04-2019 at 09:06 AM. |

The Forty Fourth Republic governs the whole of this system, known as Pascal's Wager, as well as two other notable systems 7 and 9 light years away, and stakes claim to the handful of minor systems in the vicinity. New Hong Kong serves as the entry port for all 3 systems and thus all incoming traffic must pass through or terminate here. The whole region has various forms of precursor tech, but of course the Republic is cagey about how much of it works for them. --- Question 41 [STN] How many people live, work or are accommodated on New Hong Kong? (d6 roll: 2 sentences) Question 42 [SYS][Name 5] Apart from New Hong Kong and the Solar Shield, what are 5 other precursor bases or devices in the Pascal's Wager system? (d6 roll: 3 sentences each) (PS: Don't forget your d6 rolls, everyone! I found Google has a simple dice app on its search page- search for "dice roller".)

Don't be silly; nobody bypasses New Hong Kong; great places to eat, drink, have a good time, meet interesting people, oh right, most importantly weak, weak customs. If you want entry to the 44th Republic, you'll need an entry transponder, which means dealing with Quarantine Enforcement. Those guys are scary, I've heard stories about how they just shoot people who try to bribe them, and if you try to dock with a station without a transponder KA-BLAM! Of course, people are always trying to get around them, with Rube Goldberg-like contraptions to get contraband on board after receiving the transponder, but it doesn't work, leave system, transponder void, dock with a transponder-free ship, transponder void. I've heard rumors of a smuggling ring that has some way of fooling Quarantine's system, but I'm not sure how. Question 43 [STN] What are examples of contraband Quarantine has seized recently? (d6: 4 sentences) Question 44 [SET/STN] How has the smuggling ring managed to get past Quarantine? (Bribed Official? Fancy Technology? Something else?) (d6: 3 sentences) Last edited by TGLS; 11-05-2019 at 04:52 AM. |

A 41
With 14 cubic kilometers of internal volume, 50% of it devoted to habitats and open spaces, the base supports a permanent population of 3 million humanoids and an average transient population of an additional 3 million humanoids. With an eye towards commerce, New Hong Kong is one of the cheapest places to do business in the sector, especially when it comes to offloading biological waste and on loading provisions. Question 45 How many government licensed independent courtesans work in New Hong Kong, what protections does the local government afford them in exchange for attracting business, and what are the typical punishments for customers who mistreat or harm them? Now its my turn to not read. I've changed it to give a new name and reverse the political claim: the "out" view is that Pascalons are descended from the Precursors.

QuarEnfDiv Briefing: We have reports that criminal elements belonging to the so-called Admiral Silla's Navy criminal organisation are smuggling contraband via high-risk hyperspace non-docking ship-to-ship cargo transfer maneuvres. We suspect vessels are clearing customs and quarantine procedures in New Hong Kong, then using their one authorised jump to Morton's Fork or Plato's Cave to pick up contraband en route. QED officers are to check engine specs for high-speed drives that can take roundabout hyperspace routes and still reach their destination in the designated time-window, and QED patrols along those routes are to scan for stationary or slow-moving vessels. /briefing Quote:

Question 46
How old is the 44th republic, and where was the first republic founded? (1 sentence) A46 The 44th Republic turns 162 this year, and traces its lineage to the First Republic, originally named the Terran Republic, founded approximately two thousand years ago. Question 45 How many government licensed independent courtesans work in New Hong Kong, what protections does the local government afford them in exchange for attracting business, and what are the typical punishments for customers who mistreat or harm them? (1d: 3 sentences) A45 The government of New Hong Kong doesn't bother dealing with licensing of anything short of things that are obviously dangerous. There are no special protections that apply to independent courtesans (corporate ones usually have private security), and the punishments are identical to general assault. Some traditionalists from the 44th Republic have been recently demonstrating against legalized prostitution in New Hong Kong, which has enhanced protections to some degree. Question 49 Do any of the previous republics (1st through 43rd) exist in some form? (5 sentence) Question 50 How are criminals punished on New Hong Kong? (3 sentence) |
