Answer 28 [STN]
What Fourther military units are hosted on New Hong Kong? (d6: 1 sentence.) New Hong Kong serves as the base of operations for the quarantine enforcement division, a pseudo military group responsible for border security, biological containment and assessing potential threats to the forty fourth republic, they operate with considerable resources and little direct oversight. Question 29 Are Spacestations involved in helping vessels with hyperspace travel in any way? (2 sentences)

Question 14 [SET]
What benefits and other characteristics does a hot hyperspace have? (d6: 3 sentences) A14 The most interesting characteristic of the heat of hyperspace is that it doesn't appear to be dropping, despite centuries of hyperspatial travel, implying the energy is coming from somewhere. Many companies are seeking to create reactors that can draw energy from hyperspace to generate power, over the objections of groups that worry this may disrupt hyperdrives. There is little success there beyond the Tungsten Boiler (skews a block of Tungsten into hyperspace, brings it back before it melts, and drops it in water, creating steam), so companies are wild claims of people and creatures that can draw energy from apparently nowhere. Question Roundup Question 17 [STN] What do the inhabitants call the precursors? What else do they know about them? (d6: 5 sentences) Question 18 [STN] [Name 4] Describe 5 different organisations that have offices or other official presence on the station (corporations, unions, guilds, space navies, embassies, etc.) (d6: 2 sentences per answer) Question 19 [STN] [Name 5] Describe 5 different underground groups who have a presence on the station (gangs, terrorist units, rebels, crime organisations, smuggling rings, etc.) (d6: Sentences for each answer a)6 b)3 c)3 d)6 e)1 ) Question 20 [STN] [Name 5] Describe 5 different starships that are currently docked. (d6: Sentences for each answer a)2 b)5 c)6 d)3 e)2 ) Question 23 Who built the subterranean cities and 'seeded' them with the fungi? (Roll 1d: 6 sentences). Question 26[STN] How difficult is it for a typical person to dwell in the station and use its native facilities? 2 sentences. Question 27 How far away from New Hong Kong can one find pieces of the isolationist nation that claims the precursor tech? (3 sentences) Question 29 Are Spacestations involved in helping vessels with hyperspace travel in any way? (2 sentences) Question 30 How large is the space-dwelling population in the system compared to the planet-dwelling? (3 Sentences, by my roll) Question 31 [SET] (NEW) Who are the Heaven's Tribes, and why did they invade and attempt to wipe out the precursors (4 Sentences) Question 32 [SET] (NEW) Are there people or creatures that draw energy from hyperspace, or is it wishful thinking? (4 Sentences) Last edited by TGLS; 11-04-2019 at 07:52 AM. |

Question 32
The 'lower' reaches of Hyperspace are analogous to the upper reaches of an atmosphere, mostly barren of life, but the 'upper' reaches of Hyperspace are analogous to tropical oceans and are teaming with strange lifeforms. The 'upper' levels of Hyperspace are 'cooler' and 'denser' than the 'lower' levels, so the speed of spacecraft are reduced due to 'drag', so few attempt to investigate the lifeforms due to the star sized predators that dominate the 'upper' reaches. On occasion though, the smaller lifeforms, only the size of planets, find themselves temporarily within the 'lower' reaches of Hyperspace. When they do, their senses can detect dormant hyperdrives in normal space and their tentacles can pierce into normal space to allow them to feed on the strange energies of dormant hyperdrives. |

I'd taken the above sentence to mean that the precursors had made the servitors and inhabited the planet with them, but now I realise that you meant the servitors to be engineered by the modern inhabitants (i.e. 44th Republic). I was trying to justify why the million-year old station shut down only 400 years ago by saying that its "users", the local native race, were no longer around, and the timing implied that it was caused somehow by the arrival of modern space civilisation (as opposed to something dependent on local circumstances). So, to get back on track, let's say the natives, the Pascalons, were all but wiped out, and the 44th are using native genetics to try to reconstruct the precursors. Perhaps the Pascalons look nothing like the precursors, but nonetheless have deeply buried atavistic precursor DNA in their genome? Or are the 44th trying to create precursor-morphology servitors from scratch? Or was it the precursors themselves that were here until 400 years ago? Anyway, I can fix the above by deleting the word "servitor" in my answer.

There's a network of deep space stations so that ships don't have to venture in-system for fuel, supplies or repairs. Their pulse-coded realspace EM beacons are faintly visible from hyperspace against the hot background, providing a sometimes usable network of waypoints. Question 33 [SET/STN] Are there any blockade runners who try to come in-system without going via New Hong Kong? (d6: 5 sentences)

Some dormant areas, from small cavities up to large cavernous spaces, are sleekly subdivided and retrofitted with TL10 prefabs, gangways and travelators. To avoid interfering with the activity of TL11 nanotech operating spaces, however, residents and crew need to use their favoured means of zero-G maneuvering- thruster packs, mag-boots, sling-lines or thopter wings. Question 34 [SET] Is artificial gravity tech available? (d6: 5 sentences) Question 35 [STN][Name 5] What are the top 5 trade goods exported from the system via New Hong Kong? (d6: 3 sentences per answer)

Question 36 [SET] Upthread, it was mentioned that ships need to refuel. But ships use artificial gravity rather than reaction mass for propulsion. Why do they need to stop and refuel between systems? (d6: 3 Sentences) |

A 36
Refueling is a requirement because of the coolant for the hyperdrives. The average hyperdrive requires one fuel tank worth of hydrogen coolant per week of hyperspace travel (more efficient hyperdrives that use one fuel tank every two weeks cost twice as much as normal). The vented hydrogen coolant eventually permeates back to normal space within a decade. Question 37 What are the properties of the hydrogen after it is exposed to hyperspace for a decade and why is it worth the $10,000/gram? (1d: 4 sentences). |
