Illumination was a true art when it was practiced. Though sometimes I think it was just the monks having too much time on their hands.

I can see this for security type defense spells as well as the curese or just make it look pretty.

Artist, Calligraphy, and so forth, could also serve as Complementary Skills, as described in Social Engineering p21, and Action 2: Exploits p5. In other words, successful roles grant a bonus. Depending on the material you're working with, craft skills like Carpentry, Jeweler, or Smith could also be complementary, for the purpose of getting the runes onto the item - and as pointed out above, could also be useful for finding hidden runes, or hiding them.

I prefer to use the House Rule suggested by JCurwen3 for Complementary Skills, but it's quite useful either way.

Thaumatology states in particular about enchanting that one must make two rolls one is against the Symbol Drawing and another against the skill in working with the material: Armoury, Artist, Jeweler, or Smith.
