Random equipment for a LOST game
The players are going to have to evacuate the injured off the sinking plane and grab what supplies they can . I have the equipment people listed as standard issue on an earlier thread ( for the airliner ) , but what should I place in carry on luggage to be found by a search roll. Most will be clothes of course ( the bulk of my table ) but I was thinking of something like this:
Take 1 minute and make a search roll failure: scatter useless clothing around the cabin ( or the bag turns out to belong to a angry survivor ) success : roll once on useful objects table success 3+ : roll twice and keep both OR roll 3 times and keep best critical success: roll three times and keep two of choice Some ideas for the table. Painkillers, antibiotics, sunglasses, magnifying glass, those little booze bottles, snack food ( 1 meal? ) , cordage, electronic device, batteries, jewelry, a book, a travel chess set, bobby pins Any other ideas? Getting stuff out of checked luggage is going to involve swimming and breath holding unless the players can jury rig a scuba setup out of the oxygen masks. The plane will be sunk in a shallow lagoon. I am figuring the top of the cabin will be about 2 ft out of the water at low tide. The reason for the stuff like books or games is the large number of NPC survivors. If the PCs want to use a breads and circuses approach to crowd control ( leadership or bard for crowd control vs intimidate ) such gear will give bonuses. One of the items I plan for the table is the anti-psychotic meds for one of the NPCS. With her meds she will be a useful straw boss for the PCs . As they run out she will slip into madness becoming a danger. Other NPC specific equipment ? Insulin pens to stretch out the life of a critical NPC? |

Epi-pens for someone with potentially fatal allergies. A gun or two from a traveling policeman or sky marshall.

On a critical success give them 'contraband': a multitool, more than 4 oz of liquid, a box of matches, a few loose rounds.
A magnifying glass, pocket mirror, or pocket flashlight are very possible.

Where is the flight to/from?
Since you said it would be "sinking," I presume it's over the ocean. I did a Lost-style startup for a game I ran, and did quite a bit of research on what might be found at the crash site, though my research didn't yield much. I did find that international flights over water will pretty-much always include life-rafts of some kind, which include a full-up survival kit for however many occupants it holds, including a lot of tools, items for shelter, and preserved food for some time afloat—I don't have any links anymore, but you might have better luck than I did. As to the "luggage," How I ruled that to work for the aforementioned game; assumes the Players are looking for something specific: Quote:

Maybe a small "contraband" table with stuff that slipped pass the TSA?

Re: Random equipment for a LOST game
On Dustin's list He included credit cards. At first I was going to keep them off the list as not survival useful. Then remembered in Dies the Fire where the PPA used credit cards slices as fletching for the crossbow bolts.
Definitely going to have to remember to place items that are re-purposable ( if that is a word ) . Now how many plastic garbage bags does a plane carry? What does the coffee pot on a plane look like and can it be ripped out to cook in? Can the small fridge be ripped out of a sunken plane and used for any thing? So much research ( or handwavium ) |
