Building a Dragon Warrior of sorts
Hello,
So I have a human character i GURPS who has recently been gifted "dragon-blood" and thus has access to some powers. How would I go about incorporating a "default" advantage/skill that allows gradual access to a list of fire-based attacks, starting with what I call "crimson fist" which is basiclly an unarmed/cestus attack that adds +5 to your damage roll on top of converting all damage into fire damage? Next is learning fire breath. What advantages/skills could I use / make up to make this functional in GURPS. Thanks. -Baron5X |

Re: Building a Dragon Warrior of sorts
imbuements is the answer :)
Incenderary weapon imbuement skill adds a +1 follow up burning damage to your attack. at a higher penality to the skill you can do up to 2d+2 burning follow up damage. add burning strike which converts your attack damage into burning damage and you have what you want. take them as a combo and you are set, but it will cost 2 FP per activation. the other way is using advantages. Striking ST +10 punching only would cost about 25pts. |

While Imbuements may be the best answer for adding fire to your melee attack, I think the Powers framework would be the place to go for the collection of fire elemental powers that the character starts with a toe in and will gradually learn more of.

that sound great. except im not altogether familiar with this "imbuement" skill...or advantage. I'm not sure what it is. and it's not in the gurps books i have. think you can direct me to a clearer description so i can build this properly? thank you very much!

GURPS Power-Ups 1: imbuements is what you will need as well as GURPS Powers. that gives you more than enough to make your decision.

Characters who possess the "Dragon-blooded" quality are allowed to buy such powers. If these two statemets are true than we come to the third part of the syllogism.... The "Dragon-blooded" quality is an Unusual Background. .....and that third part is true almost by definition. See p.96 of Characters I believe there is some discussion about the pricing of UBs in Powers, Supers and/or Psionic Powers. If none of these books is handy the GM has the right to charge whatever he wants anyway. Just as a hint though, if Dragon-blooded could be gained through a Great Wish Spell then it's 20 pt of less UB. You seem to have given the PC the quality so cost doesn't amtter so much. If you're only wondering what to list it as on the character sheet, UB:Dragon-blooded is the answer.

Re: Building a Dragon Warrior of sorts
Agreed, if it is nearly unique. If the powers it gives access to are so rare that no one would expect to face someone who has access to them, then UB is justified. If everyone knows people like this exist, and they are common enough that people take such powers into account, then it probably doesn't need one.
This holds even if he is the only dragon-blooded person on the planet, if other power sources have similar effects. If members of specific schools of magic can fling fireballs, the fact that he can do it because he is dragon-blooded is a special effect (and possibly a different power modifier).

Fire Breath would be fairly simple ability to model with a Innate Attack-Burning.

Re: Building a Dragon Warrior of sorts
Crimson Fist should be build with innate attack (like gilbertocarlos example) and with Imbuement, Crimson Aura where you can make ANY weapon with a fire attack.
