Vehicles (Impossible)

Should the vehicles from Munchkin Impossible be considered also Hand items from all points of view, or they simply require a free hand slot?

If they must be considered Hand items due to their hand requirement, what happens when they are owned by a player with Driver's Ed Training? They stop being hand items?
