Then I demand a bug fix or I install competing software that does work. Simulated nanodrugs are something that Ghosts can canonically get and Less Sleep 1-5 is available for meat brains as a nanodrug.

Kind of horrifying to realize your project resulted in numerous sleep paralysis people.
What, you wouldn't trade 4 hours of sleep in exchange to spend an extra 4 hours per day browsing the Internet, talking to other dreamwebbers, watching videos/InVids etc.?

Also, Less Sleep is indeed kinda meh without the rest of the package. Oh, and there's the issue of point difference, but that's kinda metagame.

...
I had a single episode of sleep paralysis as a youth. Hell no would I accept anything even vaguely similar as a good thing. I may be biased but it was a nasty experience. Thankfully, I had no altered mental state or hallucinations.

My first question was whether Per rolls would still be possible, so this guy can stand watch while the rest of the party sleeps in their camp.

Without that, and without being able to use the time for study, or for any kind of manual labour (gather resources, crafting stuff), -50% sounds about right.

I'm prone to paralysis during normal sleep. I probably get them more frequently than normal nightmares. I get the attendant hallucinations too.

Can't turn your head and can't call out an alarm. Not really helpful.

Yikes, my condolences. I just sleep walked a lot. But with strangely alert seeming behavior. I've actually apologized for falling asleep while asleep.
But sleep disturbances as an adult are pretty nasty.

Pure Invention reminds me of Caroline Martin from Simak's Cosmic Engineers. I wouldn't spoil more of a plot, however.

Well, isn't character in question actually conscicious in that state, so it can fully wake up at any time? Of course, this disturbs normal sleep but it may be more useful than be killed or captured. And you're still nearly fully aware with non-vision senses.

Anyway, such advantage is very unplausible because the most part of the sleep is mental rest, not physical one.

No, it most definitely isn't. Dreaming is a total loss of contact with your environment (including your sense of touch) combined with hallucinations AND paralysis.

I have sleep-wake paralysis, it's basically what this is describing. It's not awesome, and I'd really resent an attempt by a GM to charge me points for it. . . but I don't have a jack in my head. Still, 4 hours a day on an uncontrollable schedule where I'm forced to be nailed down instead of 4 hours of "sleep", surfing the web or not, seems like a really really dubious tradeoff.

... it's sort of like living with daily dialysis or chemo treatments, plus 4 levels of Less Sleep. Only you don't need special equipment.

Why jump through hoops trying to build this as Less Sleep instead of a limited version of Compartmentalized Mind?
